2 Amazing Tips to Memorise English Words

On our Facebook page, many of you have asked how to learn and later remember English words.

The solution: READ IN ENGLISH!

READ IN ENGLISH

This is one of the most effective ways to memorise new words. For example, I have a large vocabulary knowledge in the online marketing field, because I read a lot on the subject. And I don’t read anything else. As a result, my vocabulary is limited.

What can you do? Read online news and blogs. The articles are generally short and concise. You will find many new English words that you haven’t used yet.

Use Google News and the BlogCatalog to find news and blogs.

Visit News In Levels, an amazing website to read the latest news and learn some new English words. Created specifically for English language learners. Or use illustrations on Kaplan’s how to speak English page to learn the basic idioms and phrases.

For those who are learning business English, I recommend reading the Guardian, The Economist and the NY Times newspapers.

When you see a new word, check it on Google Translate or install a Google Dictionary in your web browser. Double-click on the new word to see the meaning in English.

The more you see the same words, the more they will remain in your memory, and soon you will be able to use them naturally in speech.

How can I learn 4-5 extra words investing the same amount of time and effort?

Visual Thesaurus

Use a Thesaurus.

A Thesaurus is a book similar to a dictionary, which gives not the definitions of words, but groups of synonyms (words with similar meanings) and related concepts for words.

For example, if you type the word ‘business’, you will be shown words such as ‘commerce’, ‘exchange’, ‘trade’ and ‘firm’.

My favorite thesaurus can be found here. But there is the widely-known Cambridge Dictionary too.

If you are a visual learner like me, you’ll enjoy using visual thesauruses. For example, the Visual Thesaurus or VisuWords.

This is a great way to learn some extra words at the same time and dramatically increase your English vocabulary.

However, just memorising English words, won’t necessarily mean that the words will be imprinted into your memory. Therefore, it may be worth learning how to use flashcards. You can create them yourself or download ready-made cards from Quizlet.

Train your brain while commuting to work or with friends and family at home. This way, not only will you learn English, but the people around you will too.

Of course, one of the best ways to memorise words is to actively use them in speech. Preferably with a native English-speaking teacher.

I think to write a diary is a good method to get to know our vocabulary which we use frequently. I admire that I can understand the political article and I can talk about them but when I say everyday stories common words I had to look up in the dictionary. I use two dictionaries for that I will be sure that the word which I looked up how much common for that is very good the Longman Dictionary.

I think one of the best ways is ” Talking To Yourself “. Specially if you’re afraid of talking in public. If you correct yourself, you’ll learn it forever. Just make sure that no one hears you! ;-D

Actually, they are so useful to learn new vocabulary, both simlpe words and the hard one.I’d tried these ways and it really works! But, the other thing is that there is an application that is really useful and so helpful for me which called “Wordup” . With this app you don’t need to take notes, it repeat and repeat each word, show you how to use them in sentences by native speakers with short movies and reading texts, and there are far more functional facilities you have with it.
You can download it from http://www.wordupapp.co .
Good luck!
