The answer is in the title really, but why do many people get this word’s spelling wrong?

S-E-N-S-E – To feel or perceive something.

However, it is easy to confuse the word sense with the plural of cent – cents, because of its similar sound when spoken aloud. (A cent is a noun used when talking about dollars. There are 100 cents in one dollar.)

The context of a sentence is what will help us sense the difference between these words. Here are a few sentences to test it out.

  • I _______ that you are unhappy.
  • I only have 50 cents, how many _______ do you have?
