When you want to resign from a job, you need to be mindful of several things. The most important thing that you want to remember is to focus on your relationships with those people you worked with. Try to think of what you could say to make them want to stay in touch with you!

First, you are giving up a good opportunity to work for this company. You do not want to burn any bridges – in other words, do not insult anyone and assume that you will never see them or need their help. You want to be polite and thank the company and your coworkers and bosses for their support and what they have done for you.

In addition, if you are comfortable sharing what your next steps are, share them! The reason that you are quitting your job is usually that you have some other, exciting opportunity coming up. This is something that could get your coworkers excited for you, so telling them your future plans could be great! Instead of thinking that you left the company because you did not like them, tell them about the baby you are having or the company that you are starting will give them a reason to stay in touch with you.

How to write a Resignation letter?

Dear coworkers and bosses,

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that I have been offered my dream job! As many of you know, I am extremely passionate about helping people in need. Among my favorite things to do are learn about the great missions of various nonprofit organizations fighting poverty and lack of access to education all around the world. Recently, I was offered the head marketing position at the Guatemalan office of the Pencils of Promise nonprofit!

This is an amazing opportunity that is so perfect for me, I cannot even begin to describe why. The point is, I will be able to make the difference I always knew that I could!

However, I will be heartbroken to leave some of the best memories that I have made here. This was my first full time job out of college, and I know that the friendships that I have built here will last me a lifetime. I will especially miss walking into the break room to discuss the episodes of Game of Thrones that were on the night before, or listening to all of you talk about your families!

My last day on the job will be in two weeks, on Friday the 18th. Please stop by my office before then so I can say a proper goodbye! I will be in town for another week before I move to Guatemala.

Thank you,

Alice
