Shared Bathroom vs. Private Bathroom

We use these two terms to describe different types of bathrooms in different types of accommodation.

For example, in a hotel room, there is usually an en-suite bathroom, this is a bathroom that is inside the hotel room or bedroom and can only be used by the people paying for that hotel room or stay in that bedroom.

A private bathroom is similar to an en-suite, as only the people who purchased the room can use that private bathroom. However, this bathroom isn’t inside the hotel room, it is actually outside the room but is exclusive to those specific guests, no one else can use that bathroom. This type of bathroom is usually found in bed and breakfasts or hostels.

Another type of bathroom that can be found in bed and breakfasts or hostels, is a shared bathroom. This bathroom is outside of the room and can be used by many different guests or by the host family. This bathroom isn’t exclusive to one bedroom or one guest, it is shared by a number of people in the hostel or bed and breakfast.
