Difference between MISS and LOSE
LOSE:
– not have something anymore or not be able to find it
I lost my keys on the beach.
She lost her husband during the war.
– not win
My favorite team has just lost the game.
MISS:
– to feel sad because you don’t have/don’t see someone/something
I miss you more and more everyday.
They really miss having coffee with you every morning.
– to be late for transportation/event/opportunity
He missed his French class.
We missed our plane yesterday, so now we have to stay here.
– not notice/hear/see something
I must have missed the keys, but they were right there on the kitchen counter.
I missed the alarm this morning, and I was late to work.
To answer the questions above:
I missed the bus/train/flight. (transportation)
I missed my turn. (It was my turn, but I didn’t notice it or in board games = you do not make the next step)
I lost my turn. (You had your turn, but you don’t have it anymore because you made a mistake)
NOTE: both ‘lose a turn‘ and ‘miss a turn’ are possible, but ‘miss a turn‘ is much more common
