Difference between Race, Ethnicity and Nationality

Race

Race is a category that describes a person’s physical traits, such as skin colour, hair colour and texture, bone structure etc. There are four major races in the world:

  • White/ Caucasian
  • Asian/ Mongoloid
  • Black/ Negroid
  • Australoid

Ethnicity

Ethnicity, on the other hand, refers to a person’s cultural background, language, and ancestry. In the United Kingdom, there are various ethnic groups. The most numerous are the Indian, the Pakistani, and the Poles.

Nationality

The nationality of a person refers to the country where he or she is a citizen. It is usually the country where they were born.
