How much liquid can you take on a plane?

Liquids rules actually differ from country to country.

The best way to figure this out is to check the airport website, or the website of the government agency that deals with airport security. That said, the majority of airports around the world follow the rules of the United States Transportation Security Administration, or TSA.

If not, their rules are generally more lax, so if you follow these rules you should have no problem. You are allowed to bring containers up to 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters), and enough containers to fill a 1 quart bag.

The frustrating thing about this might be that you need to have the small containers even if it is clear you do not have more than 100 mL of liquid in it. If the container itself is over 100 mL, it must be empty.

The rules with alcohol are more strict. Some airlines allow you to bring alcohol (it helps some people rest, relax, or fall asleep on the long flights), but others consider it illegal to bring any. Check with your airline to be sure.
