The verb appreciate has the following different meanings:
to recognize the value and significance of something/somebody

  • After recovering from her illness, Jane appreciated every single minute she got to spend with her loved ones.
  • Many women feel that their families don’t appreciate them.

to be thankful and show gratitude

  • I really appreciate all the work you have done.
  • I appreciate this opportunity to discuss my promotion with you.

to understand, to be fully aware

  • We appreciate the difficulties you had to face.
  • I appreciate that she can’t make a decision immediately.

The form I am appreciated is in the passive voice. It means “somebody appreciates me”, that is, they recognize my good qualities.

  • I am appreciated by my coworkers as well as my superiors.
  • I’m considering leaving my job. The pay is not good and I am not appreciated.

Instead of I am appreciated, you can also say I feel appreciated:

  • The pay rise they gave me makes me feel appreciated.
