  • I am looking forward to hearing or I look forward to hearing
  • I am looking forward to your reply I look forward to your reply
  • I am looking forward to working with you or I look forward to working with you

All the above forms are are correct and may be used in formal correspondence. The main difference is between their levels of formality.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you (using the Present Progressive form) is not as formal as I look forward to hearing from you (using the Present Simple form).

So, if you would like to sound really formal, for example when writing a cover letter or when contacting an important client, use I look forward to.

If you have already established a semi-formal relationship with the person you are writing to, use I’m looking forward to.
