If you are intimidating somebody you are making them feelanxious, nervous, uneasy or uncomfortable. If you are intimidated by someone or something such as an exam or a big life change, you may feel timid, disheartened or uneasy about it.

A bully usually intimates his/her victim by threatening them, towering over them or teasing them. Many employees are intimidated by their employer and feel nervous or timid when talking to them.

A big life change such as a new career or marriage may intimidate a person as it’s a new chapter in life and it may not work out the way they expect or hope it to.

It is common for people to intimidate others in order to get the person to do something for them. The bully may intimidate his/her victim to make the victim very anxious and frightened, for example. The victim will feel so nervous that he/she will be forced to do what the bully tells them to do.

Scaryon the other hand is when something or someone causes a state of fear or panic in a person. A situation may cause a person to be filled with fear or feel alarmed by the situation.

Below are some examples:

  • The teenagers thought the horror movie was very scary especially when the murderer jumped out and killed his unsuspecting victims.
  • The collapse of the tunnel was a very scary situation as there were many civilians in the tunnel trying to escape.
  • The boy hid behind the bedroom door and scared his sister by jumping out from his hiding place when she came into the room.
