There are manyΒ sayings and proverbs about regret across the world. Itβs a very common emotion, and it has happened to every person at least a couple of times. Almost every country has a variety of the saying βOnce bitten, twice shy.β
Here are a couple of examples from different cultures:
1. There is no repentance after death
this is a proverb from Russia, which says that you canβt regret if you die because of your bad decision
2. Regretting the past is like chasing the windΒ
another one from Russia and this one talks about how you shouldnβt regret the past because itβs already done
3. All of Earthβs treasures canβt bring back the last momentΒ
this proverb from France talks also about how itβs impossible to take back the past, so regretting it is not useful
4. Perform good deeds; you will not regret themΒ
a saying from Morocco which talks about how being kind can make sure you have little regrets in lifeΒ
5. Remorse is worse than a beatingΒ
this saying from Greece talks about how regret can hurt more than physical pain
6. He who hesitates regretsΒ
a saying from Albania which tells us to take our chances and not regret missing out
7. Regret, like a tail, comes at the end
an Ethiopian proverb that makes sure we remember that we canβt escape regret if we do something stupidΒ
