What are the Connectors?

Connectors are linking words or phrases which help us connect other words, phrases or sentences with each other. Connectors are important because they allow us to make compound sentences. Creating 1 sentence out of 2.

What are Connectors expressing Result?

Connectors for result or consequence link two simple sentences into a causative sequence. One scenario creates the next.

For example, without a connector we could write these two simple sentences:

Linking words describing Result: As a result, Consequently, Thus, Therefore, So, That’s why

Linking words describing Result: As...

  • It started to rain heavily. The football match was cancelled.

When sentences are separated like this, we don’t know the relationship between them.

Was the game cancelled because of the rain? Or not? We can’t be sure. Let’s try combining the two sentences with a connector.

  • It started to rain heavily, so the football match was cancelled.

See how this changes the meaning? Now we can be confident that the rain was the cause of the cancelled football game.
