Termites are little bugs that can cause some serious damage to your house if they decide to live with you! They look basically like small ants, except that they are typically white or clear and colorless. Most of them are the same size as ants, but they can be up to an inch long (2.54 cm)!
The larger ones are subterranean termites that live underground. Almost all types of termites eat wood to survive, so they have to live places where there is enough wood to be able to sustain large colonies. In addition, the workers, soldiers, and reproductive termites all have wings and antennae.
They are able to fly around, so you will have to be careful of wood that you might store in a higher place! They will still be able to get to it, so the best thing to do is keep wood away from your house (such as in a storage shed somewhere else) instead.
