EACH OTHER or ONE ANOTHER

Each other and one another are both reciprocal pronouns*.

We use ‘each other’ or ‘one another‘ when two or more people do the same thing.

The general grammar rules state that you must use ‘each other’ when talking about two people, and ‘one another’ when talking about more than two people.

For example,

  • Jake and Linda really love each other.
  • Pam, Samantha and Linn are going to meet one another at the park.

However, today this distinction is not observed in the actual usage, and we can see people say:

  • Jake and Linda really love one another .
  • Pam, Samantha and Linn are going to meet each other at the park.

I hope it’s clear now.

* A reciprocal pronoun is a pronoun that indicated that two or more people are doing or did something, and both received the consequences or benefits of the action.
