The pronoun “none” means “no part of” or “not any of”. It can be used together with both singular and plural verb forms, depending on the context:
- None of his books is good. (not even one is good)
- None of his books are good. (all of them are bad)
- None of the girls is coming to the party. (not even one girl)
- None of the girls are coming to the party. (all of them are staying away)
- None of my relatives understands me. (not even one person)
- None of my relatives understand me. (all of them don’t understand me)
