What is the difference? Why Gosh instead of God? Is gosh slang for God?
These two mean the same thing, they are just exclamations of shock or disgust.
The difference is that some people see oh my gosh as far more polite than oh my god. The reason for this is that many religious people believe that you shouldn’t use god’s name in vain which means you shouldn’t associate god’s name with something bad.
For most people, however, this is not a consideration and people go ahead and say oh my god. These are interchangeable.

- Oh my gosh! I just saw a shooting star!
- Oh my god! Look at the rainbow!
- Oh my gosh! I would never do that!
