Something that is auspicious is basically something that is favorable. If you have an auspicious sign, it means that you are likely to encounter something lucky. In some cultures, a rabbit’s foot or a four leaf clover are lucky charms:
- If you carry around an auspicious rabbit’s foot, you should not be surprised if your boss chooses to give you a raise or if the person you have a crush on asks you on a date.

Basically, you should be able to substitute the word lucky for auspicious. If it makes sense, then you have used the word correctly.
