Im confused to choose the accent . on one hand american is up to date and on the other hand the British one is classic …. so what should i do ?!

I’d say if you live in Europe, go for British accent. If you live somewhere else, go for American accent. Aside from accent, there is only little difference between these two.

I agree with Stephen Ho with a few exceptions. Even in some parts of Europe, the American accent is preferred. For example, the Irish like the American accent more since there are 60 million people of Irish decent in America and there has been historically less tension between them and the US than between them and the British.

Also, many people in Eastern Europe prefer the American accent as well since they viewed them as their strongest allies against the Nazis and Soviets.

That being said, it seems the majority of Western and Northern Europe like the British accent more because, among other things, they have had more mutual economic and political relationships. This is because of geographic reasons and the EU (though the latter might not be a factor soon.)

That being said, here is my opinion: the British accent sounds more refined and educated while the American sounds more active and exciting.

For you though, I would recommend learning the accent and dialect that would be welcomed more depending on where you’re going to use it.

I wouldn’t really worry about it, though, because learning a language is challenging enough in itself and you’ll have an accent anyway. Also, if English isn’t your first language, your accent will sound interesting if you’re from just about anywhere.
