5 Less Known Skype Apps that May Help You a Lot with Language Learning

I adore gadgets: applications (apps), websites, various games and cell phones.
But of course, what I like is not the main concern. The most important thing is how I can aid you with my knowledge. You will read about stuff that you simply must try out to make your English learning (or teaching) quicker and more effective.

The following applications refer back to Gyöngyvér’s article “4 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Be Afraid Learning English via Skype“. Here are 5 Skype Apps to boost your productivity and quality of English language learning.

1. IDroo (Windows-only)

Whiteboard for SkypeThis one is my all-time favourite app. I have already written about it at least 3 times in various blogs. The application is an online whiteboard, which both you and your teacher can write and draw on in real time. It’s like sitting opposite each other and sharing a piece of paper to scribble on it.

It’s not only for learning English. You can use it to practice your math skills, draw up a marketing plan or draw things online with your kid. It doesn’t matter whether you’re at home, at work or on your way to somewhere.

This is why I love the online world. Wherever you are, whatever you do, the most important tools are always with you.

2. ClownFish (Windows-only)

Clownfish is a fascinating Skype app. It actually does the complete opposite of what you want to do. It translates your Skype chat into the most widely used languages of the world. Why is it useful?

Suppose you’re chatting with your foreign friends on Skype. You’re chatting in English and there’s that awkward moment when you can’t find the suitable word or you don’t know how to put the sentence together. What can you do?

I usually use Google Translate. But, if you use Skype and you have this app installed, the solution is only a click away; key in your sentence in your language and your friend(s) will automatically receive it in English.

3. Descripto (Windows-only)

You can use this app to take short notes. This could help you during your online English lesson.

4. InstantMeeting (Windows-only)

Don’t ever be late for your English lesson! Although InstantMeeting works only together with Outlook Calendar, this application alerts you exactly when your lesson starts and as soon as you click on the event it takes you directly to your Skype lesson.

5. VodBurner Video Call Recorder (only for Windows + $99.95)

Video Call Recorder Skype AppWith VodBurner you can record all your lessons with your teacher or your conversations with others, no matter whether it is an interview or a memorable chat with your grandma. The application can record both video and audio calls.

You can also directly edit and share your videos and audio files on the internet.

I think this is a quite useful app, however, really good stuff never comes free, so you have to pay for it.

How did you like the offers? Do you have special apps you use? It doesn’t matter if it’s not an app for Skype.
