Popcorn is the perfect snack for watching movies. It comes in enormous buckets and you can have it salty with some butter, or sweet with chocolate and caramel.
GET THE POPCORN
As it is very popular with moviegoers, popcorn is associated with watching exciting stories. So, when there is a conflict between others, people would jokingly say Get the popcorn! to express that they are interested in watching how the argument develops, but would not like to interfere:
- Charlotte: I want to tell you something, guys. I’ve fallen in love with James.
- Susan: With James? But you know that I’ve been in love with him for years.
- Patrick: Get the popcorn!
- Chris: Gosh. Does James know about all this?

When watching an “e-fight” (an online argument) unfold, the expression *grabs popcorn* is used for the same purpose.
POPCORN BRAIN
The expression popcorn brain is used to refer to someone who is an airhead (not very clever):
- Don’t call me a popcorn brain just because I can’t remember my birthday!
BUSY AS POPCORN ON A SKILLET
The idiom as busy as popcorn on a skillet (frying pan) may be used to describe someone who is very active:
- The boys were as busy as popcorn on a skillet when their parents got home.
POPCORN MOVIE
Popcorn movies are fun to watch, but they are not necessarily very good.
- How did you like Dumb and Dumber?
- I think it’s just a popcorn movie.
