Difference between Racism and Discrimination

Discrimination is treating a particular group of people unfairly because of the category they are in. Unfortunately, there are many different categories people use as the basis for discrimination. The most common ones are:

  • Sex/ Gender – Discrimination based on gender is called sexism. A sexist person believes that a particular gender is superior to the other.
  • Age – Discrimination based on age is called ageism. An ageist person believes that a particular age group is superior to the others.
  • Race – Discrimination based on race is called racism. A racist person believes that a particular race is superior to others.
