Test of English as a Foreign Language
TOEFL is designed to test your Academic English. It’s a must for students who have been educated outside the US, but want to study at a North American university.
If you are a bit shy and get nervous when talking to strangers, the TOEFL may be the best choice for you.
Why is that?
In the speaking part of this exam, you are asked to speak into a microphone and voice your thoughts on the discussion/lecture you heard in the Listening part. Many people find it more comfortable than talking to an examiner face to face.
North American English is used throughout the exam, making TOEFL a good choice for those of you who love watching American films and TV series. The same goes for spelling and vocabulary. If you’re more familiar with the US forms, you might want to choose this exam.

2. Academic Vocabulary
Watching TED Talks is a fantastic and enjoyable way to learn new vocabulary. Have a look at their website and find the presentations you’d be glad to see. Don’t forget to turn on the Interactive Transcript, so that you can learn how to spell the new words.
You really need to check out what books and links the assessors recommend, including some fantastic resources free of charge!
