What to do in Texas?

“Everything’s bigger in Texas.” That popular saying tells you just about everything you need to know about the Lone Star State.

  1. The capital of Texas is Austin, which is located between Dallas and San Antonio.
  2. Texas has an area of 695,662 square kilometers (432,264 square miles.) This makes it second largest state.
  3. The governor is Republican Greg Abbott.
  4. Texas boasts the most counties of any U.S. state with 254.
  5. The population is 25,145,561; according to a 2010 census.
  6. It does indeed snow in Texas. It snows most often in the northern part of the state called the Panhandle and the western part. In fact, on February 11, 2010, over 11.2 inches (28.4 cm) of snow fell on Dallas.
  7. The state bird is the Mockingbird.
  8. Texas has 2 senators: Ted Cruz and John Cornyn. Both senators are Republican.
  9. A better question might be ‘What can’t you do in Texas?’ If you love getting out into nature, Texas’ many outdoor parks are ideal for taking in the stunning landscape. Some parks include the Guadelupe Mountains National Park, Big Bend State Park, and Caprock Canyons State Park. In San Antonio you can enjoy the beautiful River Walk, see the historic Alamo, or eat Tex-Mex food. In Galveston and South Padre Island you can soak up the sun on the beach. Near Dallas and in Houston you can catch an American Football game and in Austin you can experience the world-famous South by Southwest festival. However, to answer the previous question of ‘What can’t you do in Texas?’ you can’t ski. Even so, as you can see, there’s plenty to do.
