There are four different structures that are typically used to talk about the future.
They are listed here:

 

PRESENT SIMPLE

timetables, schedules

  • The train leaves at 5.30.
  • The film starts at 8pm.
  • This course ends in January, next year.
  • What time does the train leave?
  • What time does the film start?
  • When does this course end?

PRESENT CONTINUOUS

arrangements

  • I’m staying at Mum’s tonight.
  • Greg is giving a talk at the conference.
  • I’m seeing my doctor tomorrow afternoon.
  • Where are you staying tonight?
  • Is Greg giving a talk at the conference?
  • When are you seeing your doctor?

GOING TO

plans, intentions

  • I’m going to buy a bigger car.
  • I’m not going to give up this job.
  • What are you going to do?

predictions based on evidence

  • She’s going to fail her exams unless she starts studying.
  • It’s going to rain. Look at those clouds!

WILL

spontaneous decisions

  • I’ll call him and ask how he is.
  • Can you wait here? I’ll just go and buy a postcard.

  • I think he’ll like this T-shirt

offers, promises

  • I’ll help you.
  • I won’t tell anyone, believe me.
