Whilst talking to others after a meeting, I said that I had been “dumped” by all of my sponsors.

Was this an acceptable way of saying it?

I am worried about what one of the guys (who is a rock star) may have thought of my use of the word ‘dumped’. Perhaps I should have said I was ‘let go’?

I like to try to be ladylike in general.

This is an acceptable way of saying that your sponsors have fired you but it is very colloquial and is not very ladylike.

Dumped is a lot more informal and used a lot when talking about the end of a relationship. For example, “my girlfriend dumped me last weekend”.

What you said to your colleagues made sense but may not be acceptable in an office environment. Instead of saying dumped, a more professional term would be fired or let go or ceased or quit.

  • I was let go by my sponsors.
  • I was fired by my sponsors.
  • My sponsors have ceased/stopped sponsoring me.
  • My sponsors quit.
