A Communicable disease is a kind of disease that spread from person to person through different means.

These ways include:

  • Physical contact with an infected person: direct/indirect touch(Impetigo, athletes foot), sexual intercourse(HIV), oral transmission(Hepatitis A), droplets(influenza)

  • Air contact: sneezing, coughing and spitting. These actions cause the germs or virus to spread in the air and then be inhaled by another person. SARS, which stroke the whole world in 2003 belongs to air contact.

  • Infected food and water: Food and water is very likely to get infected if not kept clean, especially in underdeveloped areas. Cholea and typhoid can be spread out by dirty water.

  • Bites of insects: Mosquitoes and fleas can spread malaria and dengue fever. When they suck blood from an infected person, the germs will be carried around and they inject germs into another person’s body when biting them.

So How do we prevent communicable disease?

  • First we can wash our hands regularly. Our hands touch too many things everyday, and carry a lot of germs. Washing your hands with soap kills 80% of the germs and lower the chance of being infected.

  • We can also take a vaccination. There are vaccination available in hospitals and you should choose which one to take before going to a highly infected place.

  • Then, we should be aware of what we eat and drink. Don’t eat in a dirty environment. Lots of germs may be grown and enter your body by consuming them.

  • Avoid going to dangerous places. If you know some communicable disease is spreading rapidly in some area, just don’t go there.

There are plenty of ways to prevent an infection. You may consult a doctor or look for some tips on the Internet.
